Choosing Your Next Used Car

For most people, a vehicle is the second most expensive purchase they will make, so it's important to make sure you do a little thinking ahead of time about what you really need out of your next vehicle. No one wants to spend a huge amount of money one something that they're not going to be happy with.

Here are some things to consider:

  • What will the vehicle be used for: commuting to work, family car, personal chores, vacations, sports and recreation, business, etc? Typically, your vehicle will be used for a combination of these, so make sure your new vehicle will fit in with your lifestyle.
  • How many people do you need to be able to hold?
  • Don't forget storage space...it would be a share if your golf clubs don't fit in the trunk!
  • Do you need power, do you need towing ability, or is fuel mileage more important?
  • Once you've decided whether you need a car, truck, or SUV...now what?

It's a good idea to have a short list of vehicles that fit into what you want. For example, if you decide you need a mid-sized sedan, than your list would probably include the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry, and the Ford Taurus. Now you have something to look for, and you can go about trying to find your best deals.
